Printable Christmas activities for the family

Four printable PDFs for the Christmas season, downloaded as soon as you've paid and printed at home: one to share through December, one for Christmas Day, one for the grandparents and one to give for a laugh. Nothing is posted, so last posting dates don't come into it.

For December, the family activity Advent calendar has 24 cards, one per day: a paper chain and clove oranges, hot chocolate and cookies to decorate, charades and pass the parcel, a walk to see the Christmas lights and small acts of kindness. For Christmas Day itself, The Christmas Championship is our Christmas activity book for families: 40 games from drinks to pudding, played as one long contest with a score sheet, over 250 cards to cut out and a champion crowned at the end. It suits 3 to 20 players from age 4, with a chapter for the children and a late-night one for teenagers and grown-ups, and one Games Master can get it ready with about twenty minutes of reading.

For grandparents, the large print Christmas word search has 64 puzzles from Advent to Pancake Day, one big grid per page: print them, clip them together and give them with a good pencil. And for a laugh, ZEN? NOT TODAY! is 50 funny colouring pages for grown-ups with no swearing, an easy Secret Santa or stocking filler once printed and paired with a box of pencils.

Making your own games? Our guide to Christmas games for the family has twelve that need nothing you don't already have, Christmas Day bingo explains how to make the cards, and our Christmas treasure hunt clues give the children a trail to follow round the house.

Questions

Which one is for which person?

The Advent calendar is for families with children, to share from 1 to 24 December. The Christmas Championship is for whoever hosts Christmas Day, from 3 to 20 players. The large print Christmas word search is for a grandparent or anyone who prefers big letters. ZEN? NOT TODAY! is a funny present for a grown-up, a colleague or a friend.

We're starting late. Does the Advent calendar still work?

Yes. Start on whatever day you print it: the order of the cards is up to you, so you can keep the outings for weekends, do two short ones on the same evening or skip a few.

How do I give a printable as a present?

Print the pages on good paper, clip or bind them (a print shop can add a spiral binding) and add pencils. Please don't forward the PDF: the licence covers personal and family use, so the gift is the printed pages, not the file.

What paper should I use?

A4 or US Letter. For the calendar cards and the Championship cards, card of 160 to 200 gsm lasts longer if your printer takes it; ordinary paper is fine for the word search and for colouring with pencils, and thicker paper suits felt tips.

Is anything sent by post?

No. All four are PDF files that you download after payment and print yourself.
