Football coach notebooks to print, from U6 to U13

A football coach notebook keeps a whole season with a youth team in one place: illustrated games or drills with a diagram, session plans to fill in and sheets to track your match days. Ours are written for grassroots coaches of U6 to U13 teams, often volunteers who plan Saturday's session on a weeknight after work.

Choose by age group. For 5 and 6-year-olds, the U6-U7 coach's notebook has 38 games told as stories in 7 chapters, each lasting 6 to 15 minutes, with 26 session plans, 16 match-day sheets, attendance pages, a season review and a team certificate; its match-format page describes the FA's 3v3 for under-7s from 2026-27, with no keepers and pitches of about 15 × 10 m. For 7 and 8-year-olds, the U8-U9 workbook holds 38 drills of 10 to 15 minutes, 24 session sheets, 16 match-day sheets that track every child's minutes, an 8-level keepy-uppy challenge and three more skills challenges, plus a 5v5 page based on England Football's guidance (37 × 27 m pitch, 12 × 6 ft goals, size 3 ball, rolling subs, retreat line). Coaching several age groups, or older children with real fixtures? The U7 to U13 workbook has 40 drills (12 for U7-U9, 21 for U10-U13 and 7 for both), 30 session plans, 20 match sheets for the line-up, subs, minutes, scorers and assists, 4 attendance pages and 3 sample sessions.

Every drill page gives the time, the number of players, the area and the equipment, with a diagram seen from above and an easier and a harder variation. The pages are black and white. The U6-U7 and U8-U9 books measure 21 × 27.9 cm and print at actual size on A4 or US Letter; the U7 to U13 workbook is US Letter, so choose “Fit to page” on A4. Reprint the session plans and match sheets for the teams you coach, season after season.

Questions

Which book should I buy for 6-year-olds?

The U6-U7 notebook. Its games last 6 to 15 minutes, each one starts with a little story to tell the children, and its match-day sheets suit 3v3 festivals. The U7 to U13 workbook also has 19 drills that suit U7-U9s, but it is built for a wider age range and for matches with results.

What is the difference between a match-day sheet and a match sheet?

The match-day sheets in the U6-U7 and U8-U9 books are for match days without league tables: who plays each round or game, who goes in goal, playing time and what went well. The match sheet in the U7 to U13 workbook follows one match: line-up, substitutes, minutes per player, scorers and assists.

Can I use one book for several teams?

Yes, for the teams you coach yourself: reprint the session plans, match sheets and attendance pages as often as you need, this season or the next. The file must not be shared with other coaches or resold.

Is it FA-approved?

No. The workbooks are independent and not published or endorsed by the FA, a county FA or a league. The match-format pages summarise England Football's published guidance, and your league's rules always take precedence.

How do I print it on A4?

The U6-U7 and U8-U9 books are 21 × 27.9 cm: print at 100% (“Actual size”) and they fit on A4 with a little extra white space. The U7 to U13 workbook is US Letter: choose “Fit to page” and the page shrinks by about 3%, still easy to read.
