Seven-year-olds, an hour of training and little time to plan
You coach U8s or U9s, often as a volunteer, between work and family. At this age attention spans are short: you need games they understand in 30 seconds, a ball each and very little queuing. On match day, everyone has to play and take a turn in goal, without you losing track.
A workbook built for 7- and 8-year-olds
All 38 drills are designed for U8s and U9s. Each one gives the time, number of players, area and equipment, with a diagram seen from above, 4 steps, 3 coaching points and two variations. You plan your sessions on the session sheets and, on match day, the match-day sheet helps you track each child’s playing time, with no scores and no tables.
What's inside
Short, lively games
Each drill lasts 10 to 15 minutes. Fun warm-ups, keepy-uppies, dribbling, passing, shooting, 1v1s and 5v5 games: 7 chapters to keep your sessions varied.
The 5v5 format at a glance
One page sums up 5v5 for U8s and U9s from England Football’s guidance: pitch, goals, ball, rolling subs, restarts, retreat line. Your league’s rules always take precedence.
Everyone plays
Each match-day sheet has the starting line-up, the substitutes and the minutes played by each child over 5 games or periods. You can see at a glance that everyone has started a game.
Every child’s progress
An 8-level keepy-uppy challenge suggested by the author and three more challenges (flick-up, 8 m shot, pairs), tracked in tables from September to June.

Questions
How do I receive the workbook?
Right after payment, you can download the PDF. Nothing is sent by post: you print it yourself.
What size is it? Can I print it on A4?
The pages are 21 × 27.9 cm (8.25 × 11 in). They fit on an A4 sheet as well as on US Letter: print at 100% (“Actual size”). On A4 there is simply a little more white space around the page.
Do I need a colour printer?
No. The inside pages are in black and white and shades of grey, so a home printer is fine. Print the whole workbook or just the sheets you need.
Is it a translation?
Yes. It is the English edition of “Le cahier du coach de football – U8-U9” by Zé, translated and adapted for coaches in the UK: same drills, diagrams and timings, and the match-format page sums up England Football’s guidance on 5v5. The PDF opens with the colour cover, then a licence page: use with your own teams, print as often as you need, no sharing of the file.
Can I reprint the sheets?
Yes, for your own use: reprint the session sheets, match-day sheets, attendance pages and challenge tables as often as you need, for another team you coach or for next season. The file must not be shared or resold.
Is it an official FA resource?
No. The workbook is independent and not linked to any federation, league or club. The 5v5 page summarises England Football’s published guidance, and your league’s rules always take precedence.
